What type of workouts, how much pitching, should a pitcher do prior to post season play?

    Hi Rick,

I’ll comment on the type of workouts:

Generally, the time dedicated to fitness/workouts in-season will be reduced, compared to the offseason workload, no matter what. So, if your athlete or team reduces their workouts from 3x/week to 1x/week, I confidently suggest you continue to honor that workout throughout the season to maintain fitness throughout the season.

If your athlete or team has the opportunity to workout 2 or more times/week (I’m referring to 2-3, separate fitness workouts that last 30min-1hour) you will need to adjust your workouts to allow your athletes to recover 2-3 prior to the beginning of post season.

Allowing them to recover does not mean canceling workouts. Switching the type of exercises you use can help maintain their fitness, while not contributing to the cumulative fatigue of the season. Here are three posts that will give you the in-season training advice your looking for.
