Video: G-flop Drill for Windmill Pitching Acceleration
Acceleration in the windmill pitching motion is critical to the success of the pitch. It’s logical: if you’re not accelerating your arm at delivery, you will not release the ball with maximum speed. Despite this, so many pitchers get into the habit of slowing down or even stopping their hands at the delivery of the pitch, resulting in compromised velocity and accuracy.
Learn to Accelerate in Windmill Pitching
In most cases, deceleration and hard stopping of the hand comes from a subconscious lack of trust in the pitching mechanics, meaning the pitcher does not believe she can keep the pitch under control and throw a strike while also accelerating as much as she can. Most of the time this isn’t a conscious thought, yet the habit still develops. Today I’m sharing a simple drill that is designed to use the natural acceleration of gravity to help the pitcher feel what it’s like to allow her arm to accelerate in a relaxed manner. It’s called G-flop (as in gravity flop). Watch the video to see it in action!
